Dryer for drying paint coats on sand half-moulds
Our assignment from the customer was to enable drying the whole surface of half-moulds. Because these often have a very complicated shape, we had to design air circulation to match. We needed circulation that was sufficient not only in its power, but also in its scope so that it would cover the whole surface of the half-mould, which would in turn dry evenly.
We divided the dryer into multiple heating zones with each one having configurable air circulation. Configurable slats make it possible to set the size of the air circulation surface and also the circulation speed. And yet every customer can set it up on their own.
In the larger SP 75 000 furnace we were also limited by the furnace’s maximum height. Because of this, we had to devise a unique door opening system. This was a segmented gate that rode perpendicularly up and over the furnace so that it would occupy hardly any vertical space. We also tackled the job of choosing the right materials for this gate. Because we had never done anything like this before, we could not estimate how much the material would degrade over time. But in the end, we found the right solution.
What’s great about this facility
- a sturdy construction relative to the half-moulds’ lightness—suitable even in an environment as tough as a foundry
- meets the speed requirements for drying half-mould coats thanks to our air circulation system
- (in a smaller furnace we have been able to dry one half-mould in just 20 minutes)
