Two new hardening lines for heat treatment of aluminum castings

The first quarter of this year was characterized by finishing works on two automatic lines for heat treatment of aluminum castings.

 

Hardening line for heat treatment of valves for gas appliances

Gas-fired hardening line with charge basket

This gas-fired hardening line was made for an international company with production plant in Mexico. 

The line is unlike the previous we made, equipped with gas burners. On customer's request the immersion of basket with charge is up to 10 seconds from beginning of door opening until fully immersed basket.

 

Line description:

  • Vertical chamber furnace with forced circulation of the inner atmosphere and bottom loading  KNC/VP 1800/65
  • Quenching bath KLV 8000
  • Ht Monit recording software with interface, convertors and possibility to connect 1 PLC SIMATIC and 3 Ht Industry controllers of 3 SV dryers
  • 8 pcs of recording thermocouples in each corner of furnace chamber
  • Temperature uniformity ± 5 °C  in usable space of empty furnace including temperature uniformity report
  • Quench time decrease immersion of basket with charge will be faster. 10 (4+6) seconds from beginning of door opening until fully immersed basket
  • Calibration of measuring loop of all controller inputs and thermocouples are calibrated at 530 °C

Furnace is designed with respect to further certification for following standards: NADCAP, AMS 2750 a 2751 (aircraft and aerospace industry), CQI-9 (automotive).

Hardening line for heat treatment of aluminum precision castings

Hardening line quenching bath located at floor level

The second, electric-heated hardening line we have produced for Czech leading manufacturer of precision castings.

Customer had a request to the line, where no floor construction work needed. Therefore, we designed a quenching bath located at floor level. 

 

Line description:

  • Vertical chamber furnace with forced circulation of the inner atmosphere and bottom loading KNCV 1000/65
  • Quenching bath KLV 2000
  • The line is controlled by a SIMATIC S7-1200 programmable controller with a monochrome touch-screen operating panel, located in a stand-alone switchboard console
  • Handling of the charge is done by an electrically driven triple row slewing roller chain with gearbox and electric drive
  • The furnace is equipped with an electric trolley that moves along the rails installed above the floor level
  • Charge submerge speed from time of door opening is 12 sec.
  • Two charge baskets for 200 kg charge

The line allows to fulfill the requirements for accurate temperature distribution in the inner space of the furnace and the dynamic progress of temperature curve. The line is prepared for the fulfillment of AMS 2750E Norms AMS 2751 and AMS 2750.

 

Description of the operating cycle:

Preparation prior to heat treatment:

  • The operator places basket onto loading point (the furnace is in position above the quenching bath)
  • The operator moves furnace to base position (above the basket)
  • The operator connects basket to manipulator and starts the program

Operations performed automatically without operator intervention:

  • Immersion of charge baskets into the furnace
  • Door closing
  • Circulation of inner atmosphere and heating begins (ramp to temperature and soak at temperature)
  • Furnace movement to position above quenching bath after soak process is complete
  • Furnace door opening
  • Placement of charge baskets into quenching bath and processing in bath for required amount of time
  • Removal of baskets from bath back into furnace and to base position (furnace door remains open)
  • Program completion
